When do I file for an abatement?

You may file once you are in receipt of the actual tax bill for the fiscal year, but no later than the due date of the actual tax bill.  THIS DEADLINE CANNOT BE EXTENDED FOR ANY REASON.  Call the assessors office if you require clarification of the due date, (413) 863-3200 X204.

Filing an application does not stay the collection of your taxes.  To avoid the loss of rights or additional charges, you should pay the tax as assessed.  If there is an overpayment due to the abatement, you will be issued a refund.
